WJ Sunstone has rebranded and renamed its technology portfolio, creating a clearer and more consistent range of solutions designed to make it easier for highways operators and contractors to understand the technologies available and how they can support safer, smarter and more connected roads.
Although the names and branding have changed, the solutions continue to deliver the trusted, high-quality performance WJ Sunstone is renowned for. The refreshed portfolio strengthens the WJ Sunstone brand and gives customers a simpler way to navigate the range, understand the benefits of each solution and identify the right technology for their requirements.
The updated portfolio brings WJ Sunstone’s intelligent traffic, surveillance, detection, communications and off-grid power technologies under a simplified naming structure. The solutions can be used across temporary and longer-term highway applications, either independently or combined to provide a wider approach to surveillance, detection, communications and power.
Within the intelligent traffic portfolio, TASCAR (Temporary Automatic Speed Cameras) provides a flexible approach to temporary speed enforcement, while AVERA (Active Vehicle Event Recognition Alerts) is designed to identify vehicle events and provide alerts to support operational awareness.
WJ Sunstone also offers Stopped Vehicle Detection, helping to identify vehicles that have stopped within monitored areas, and Rapid ANPR Mobile Cameras, providing automatic number plate recognition without the need for a traditional fixed installation.
The company’s solar-powered surveillance systems now sit within the Detect portfolio. This includes Detect, previously known as ARC, alongside Detect-R, previously Raft, and Detect-S, previously SICS. The Detect systems can be integrated with CCTV, radar and ANPR, allowing solutions to be configured according to the requirements of individual highway applications.
For communications, Connect is a base station designed to provide connectivity where existing infrastructure is unavailable or additional communications capacity is required.
The off-grid power portfolio is now centred around Volt, previously ARC Gen, and Volt-P, previously Power Station. These solutions provide power for equipment in locations where a mains connection is unavailable or impractical.
The simplified portfolio allows customers to select individual technologies according to their project requirements, while also providing the flexibility to combine solutions as needs evolve.
Alongside the portfolio refresh, WJ Sunstone and WJ’s intelligent transport systems (ITS) team have now been fully brought together under the WJ Sunstone banner. Continued success has also supported the opening of a new dedicated WJ Sunstone depot at Silverdale, near Stoke, which houses the division’s control room.
Located five minutes from WJ’s Northern headquarters, it is WJ Sunstone’s second dedicated depot, with its existing facility in Whitstable, and frees up capacity at the neighbouring Stoke depot to support the wider growth of the business.
Tom Howarth, Head of WJ Sunstone, said: “We have a broad range of trusted, high-quality technologies that solve very different challenges, and we wanted to make it much simpler for customers to understand what each solution does, where it can be used and how the different technologies can work together.
“The rebrand gives the portfolio a stronger and more consistent identity, while the new names are designed to make the role and benefits of each solution clearer. Importantly, while the names have changed, the quality, reliability and expertise behind the solutions remain the same. Customers can continue to rely on the technology and performance they know from WJ, now with a simpler and more connected portfolio to navigate.”
