Following the launch of the SolarLite Local Authority Impact Challenge, local authorities across the UK are invited to join SolarLite and LCRIG for two focused webinars in November, exploring the potential of active road studs to support safer, more sustainable and cost-effective highways.
From improving road safety and driver visibility to reducing carbon emissions and street lighting costs, the sessions will share practical insight, explore potential applications and help authorities identify suitable locations to put forward for the challenge.
The initiative, launched by SolarLite part of the Clearview Intelligence Group, in partnership with LCRIG, will give three authorities the opportunity to receive up to 100 SolarLite active road studs, supplied and installed free of charge, subject to site assessment, technical approval and final scheme design.
With entries closing on 30th November 2026, the webinars will provide an opportunity to learn more about the technology, explore its potential benefits and understand what makes a suitable challenge submission.
LCRIG-Hosted Webinar: Improving Road Safety
Date: 3rd November 2026
Time: 11:00am
Location: Teams Webinars
The first webinar will focus on how SolarLite active road studs could improve visibility and provide clearer guidance for drivers, particularly at locations where existing measures may not be delivering the desired results.
Unlike conventional reflective road studs, which rely on vehicle headlights and are typically visible from around 90 metres, SolarLite active road studs use integrated LEDs to emit light, providing visibility from up to 900 metres. Powered by solar energy, they operate independently of mains electricity.
The session will explore the technology’s practical applications and draw on learning from the ADEPT Live Labs programme in East Riding of Yorkshire, where active road studs were deployed as part of innovative visual guidance schemes.
Attendees will discover the types of locations that could be suitable for the SolarLite Local Authority Impact Challenge, from unlit rural roads and difficult bends to complex junctions and roundabouts.
The webinar will also explain what SolarLite and LCRIG are looking for in challenge submissions, helping authorities identify locations where enhanced delineation could make a measurable difference.

LCRIG-Hosted Webinar: Reducing Carbon and Street Lighting Costs
Date: 10th November 2026
Time: 11:00am
Location: Teams Webinars
With authorities facing pressure to reduce expenditure, lower carbon emissions and manage ageing infrastructure, the second webinar will explore the potential for active road studs to support a different approach to street lighting at appropriate locations.
The session will examine how SolarLite active road studs could provide an alternative or complementary approach to conventional street lighting, helping authorities consider opportunities to reduce energy use, carbon emissions and associated costs while maintaining effective road delineation.
The discussion will draw on findings from the ADEPT Live Labs 2 decarbonising street lighting project, led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The project’s final report identified potential ten-year savings of £1.24 million across its test sites compared with conventional street-lighting replacement. It also calculated a 25% reduction in carbon over the same high-certainty appraisal period, potentially rising to 36% with further value engineering.
These findings provide a valuable starting point for authorities considering how innovative approaches could support their own local priorities. The webinar will explore the potential implications for local networks, the factors to consider when assessing a suitable site, and the information authorities should provide when putting forward a scheme.
