LCRIG Welcomes Two New Members

This week, we are delighted to welcome two new members to our ever-growing community with the addition of Preston College and Lancashire Combined County Authority.

The newly formed Lancashire Combined County Authority brings people, plans and investment together to build a stronger, more connected county.

Its role is to lead and coordinate. Setting shared priorities for skills, transport and economic growth so that Lancashire’s residents and businesses can succeed. We work with local councils, employers, colleges and national partners to make sure decisions are joined up and focused on what matters most to our communities.

Councillor Phil Riley at Lancashire Combined County Authority, said:

“Joining the Local Council Roads Innovation Group gives the Lancashire Combined County Authority a valuable opportunity to learn from best practice across the country, build new partnerships and access specialist expertise. As we develop our role as a strategic transport authority, that national insight and support will help us deliver better transport services and value for money for Lancashire.”

Preston College is a large general further education college based in Preston, providing education and skills training for young people and adults. The College has approximately 8,500 students, making it a significant education provider and employer within the local area.

The College specialises particularly in technical and vocational education, offering programmes from entry level through to higher education, including T Levels, apprenticeships, adult education and university-level qualifications. Its curriculum covers areas such as engineering, construction and business.

Rachel Hay, Industry and Career Advisor at Preston College, said:

“Preston College is delighted to join LCRIG as an Academia Member. Developing strong relationships with industry is incredibly important to us, ensuring that our students gain meaningful insight into the sectors they are preparing to enter and that our curriculum remains connected to the skills employers need.

“Through our membership, we hope to strengthen our relationships with organisations across the highways and infrastructure sector, create opportunities for our students to engage with employers through industry placements, site visits and other employer-led activities, and learn from the knowledge and innovation within the LCRIG community.

“We are also keen to contribute as an education partner, supporting the sector to engage with the next generation of talent and helping to develop the skills pipeline needed for the future.”

We are delighted to welcome Lancashire Combined County Authority and Preston College to the LCRIG community and look forward to working together to share knowledge and build new partnerships across the sector.
