The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is currently undertaking work to support the better integration of walking and wheeling routes within new residential developments and is seeking insight from industry professionals, particularly those working within the public sector.
As part of this project, CIHT is developing a technical report aimed at supporting local practitioners involved in planning and development. The report will focus on how walking and wheeling can be embedded more effectively into new housing developments, including the planning of walking links, routes and desire lines that connect residents to the destinations and services they need to access.
To help inform this work, CIHT has launched a short survey exploring how walking and wheeling considerations are currently assessed within proposals for new housing developments, as well as how site selection can better support genuine travel choice and sustainable transport options.
