Gautam ZEN UK and Partners Trial XyloBIND™ Next-Generation Asphalt in Coventry

Working in collaboration with Coventry City Council, Holcim UK, Balfour Beatty Living Places, LiveLabs2, and the Centre of Excellence for Decarbonising Roads, Gautam ZEN UK has successfully trialled XyloBIND™, a lignin-derived additive designed to intercept bitumen oxidation and preserve pavement performance.

The surface course SMA trials on Willenhall Lane in Coventry represent a significant step in demonstrating how bio-based solutions can contribute to reduced road maintenance costs through enhanced asphalt durability. XyloBIND™ turbo charges asphalt by increasing its resistance to ageing whilst significantly reducing its embodied carbon, today.

XyloBIND™ is a biomass-derived, lignin-based engineered biocarbon. Thanks to its natural antioxidant functionality, it intercepts oxidative pathways in bitumen, reducing binder ageing and helping to preserve asphalt performance. Importantly, it functions as a seamless drop-in solution, requiring no changes to existing processes.

Gautam ZEN UK is keen to engage with partners on plant demonstrations and trial sections to explore how XyloBIND™ can contribute to the Net Zero journey.
