ADEPT Carbon Leadership Programme: Join the Upcoming Introductory Webinars

The Carbon Leadership Programme is a fully funded initiative designed to help local highway authorities save money, increase efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions by measuring and identifying how to reduce carbon emissions – and two introductory webinars are coming up this month.

Launched in June 2025, the Carbon Leadership Programme is supported by the Department for Transport and delivered by the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport (ADEPT), in partnership with Proving Services.

The programme offers a practical, evidence-based framework that helps local highway authorities across England to identify opportunities to cut emissions, improve operational efficiency and deliver long-term cost savings.

By taking part, local highway authorities can:

  • Improve efficiency and build resilience across their services.
  • Identify opportunities to save money and streamline resources.
  • Show accountability and leadership by building more efficient, sustainable infrastructure.
  • Access peer learning and tailored support.
  • Work collaboratively towards national carbon reduction targets.

Since launching last year, a third of England’s 153 local highway authorities have engaged with the programme, with 54 LHAs completing the full assessments and contributing to the first ever national baseline of carbon emissions from local road maintenance and construction.

Findings highlight a clear link between operational efficiency and carbon performance, alongside an improved understanding of embedding carbon considerations early in planning and procurement, and the value of a shared network.

The two introductory webinars will take place on 17th and 23rd June 2026. Both will be led by ADEPT and the Proving Services teams. You only need to register for one session, as the content will be the same.

The sessions will cover what is involved in completing the Carbon Leadership Programme and will include key information for anyone considering applying for the next cohort.
