Newline Highways Welcomes First Apprentice

Newline Highways is celebrating a major milestone with the appointment of its very first apprentice, Hashim Nisar.

Hashim has joined the team as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor while continuing his studies at Derby College. This marks not only an exciting step forward in Hashim’s career, but also a landmark moment for Newline Highways, highlighting the company’s commitment to investing in people and nurturing the next generation of talent within the highways sector.

Working closely with Derby College, Newline has developed a tailored programme to give Hashim a well-rounded apprenticeship experience:

  • 3 days a week working directly with Newline, gaining hands-on project and commercial exposure
  • 1 day a week with their external accountants, adding depth to his financial knowledge and strengthening his commercial skills
  • 1 day a week dedicated to his studies at Derby College, providing the academic foundation to support his career development.

This structure ensures Hashim benefits from a balance of classroom learning, on-site application, and external commercial practice.

Commenting on his new role, Hashim said:

“I’m incredibly excited to have joined Newline Highways as their first apprentice and to be part of such an innovative and supportive team. The apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop my skills as a Quantity Surveyor while continuing my academic studies at Derby College. The chance to work closely with both Newline and external partners provides invaluable insight into the commercial and financial aspects of the highways industry, which is an area I’m passionate about.

“I’m grateful for the support and guidance from both Newline Highways and Derby College, and I’m committed to contributing to the company’s success as I grow in my role. This is an exciting step in my career, and I’m looking forward to what the future holds!”

Ben Turner, Business Development Manager at Newline Highways, added:

“We’re really excited to support Hashim throughout this journey and can’t wait to see how he develops with us over the coming years. This marks the start of something new at Newline Highways, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more apprentices in the future as we continue to grow.”
