This week, marks the celebration of National Apprenticeship week, running from 05 – 11 February, with the overarching theme of ‘Skills for Life’.
As part of the festivities, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) will be sharing some of the initiatives that we have been working on to help promote apprenticeships and address the skills shortage facing the highways sector.
Today (05 February 2024), we proudly share with you Salford City College Group’s latest Achieve magazine which features an article on the Highways Maintenance Skills Academy apprenticeship programme.
The specialist apprenticeship programme has been created in partnership with Salford City College Group and Salford City Council, and is meticulously designed to address the distinct demands of a Highways Operative working on the local road network.
Through collaboration with Salford City College, Salford City Council and contributions of time or equipment donated from organisations within the sector, we have created a dedicated outdoor facility within the academy. This purpose-built area serves as a valuable resource for students, providing the necessary support for their apprenticeship journey and enabling them to fulfil the practical elements of their course.

Make sure to stay tuned to our channels this week as we continue to shine a light on skills and celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that apprenticeships bring.
