BakerHicks has supported the restoration of the footpath surrounding the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, helping to improve accessibility and provide a safer, smoother route for visitors.
Appointed by The Royal Parks, BakerHicks developed proposals to repair deteriorating sections of the path while preserving the character of this much-loved memorial landscape.
Opened in 2004, the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain is one of London’s most recognisable memorial spaces, attracting millions of visitors each year. The circular route surrounding the fountain is central to the visitor experience, providing a place to walk, pause and reflect.
Over time, sections of the resin-bound gravel path had become worn, creating the need for sensitive repair and redesign.
Working through The Royal Parks’ Highways Engineering Consultancy Services framework, BakerHicks, a multi-disciplinary design, engineering and project delivery company, developed detailed proposals to restore the deteriorated sections while maintaining the character and accessibility of the route.
The team carried out visual inspections, prepared design information and supported delivery by responding to site queries and inspecting the completed works against specification.
The restored path provides a smoother, more accessible route around the fountain, helping visitors continue to enjoy this special place safely, comfortably and at their own pace.
