Industry Interview: Multipave Infrastructure – Building on Our Heritage, Investing in Our Future

With roots stretching back three generations of the Ralphs family, Multipave Infrastructure has a long-standing connection to the UK highways sector. Today, the business is entering a new chapter, bringing its capabilities together under one identity and looking to the future.

We caught up with John Ralphs, Founder and Managing Director at Multipave Infrastructure, to discuss the company’s new website and rebrand, its evolution over the past two decades, and its people-first approach to delivering highways and infrastructure.

Q. What inspired the new website and rebrand?

A. It was about making sure our identity reflects who we are today and where we’re heading.

Our heritage dates back to the late 1950s, with my grandfather involved in surfacing works and dad involved with drainage on the Preston Bypass, widely recognised as the UK’s first motorway. That experience in road surfacing and drainage, laid the foundations for the technical expertise we still have today.

The foundations of today’s business were laid in 2004, when I, together with my dad, founded Pavertec as a specialist paver and operator hire company. This was followed by the creation of contracting business Multipave in 2007 and Roadpave Recycling in 2015.

With a talented new board of directors, bringing these businesses together under the Multipave Infrastructure name gives us a clearer identity and a stronger platform for the future.

Q. What do you want visitors to take away from the new website?

A. We want people to understand who we are, what we can deliver and, most importantly, the people behind the business.

We’re an integrated highways and infrastructure contractor, offering everything from road surfacing, in house cold mix asphalt production, specialist civil engineering to drainage, highway technology and technical services.

The website brings those capabilities together while showcasing the experience, expertise and collaborative approach that sit behind our projects.

Q. Why put people, projects and partnerships at the heart of the new brand?

A. Because they really define who we are.

Infrastructure is about people – the teams delivering projects, the clients and partners we work with, and the communities that use the infrastructure we build and maintain.

Strong relationships are essential to successful delivery. That collaborative approach also helps us find smarter and more sustainable engineering solutions, from manufacturing our own low-carbon materials to working with clients and partners to find whole life cost benefits.

Q. How has the business evolved?

A. We’ve come a long way since 2004, growing from a specialist plant hire operation into one of the UK’s largest independent road surfacing and civil engineering contractors.

Today, we can support clients across the project lifecycle, from initial concept and technical input through to design guidance, construction and completion.

The new website reflects that evolution and highlights the breadth of our capabilities, including our road recycling division and Eco-Phalt Bio, the UK’s first carbon negative EPD-verified cold recycled bound material produced at our Leyland Recycling Depot.

Q. What does being a “people-first contractor” mean in practice?

A. It means putting people at the centre of how we operate.

Safety is non-negotiable, and we want our people to feel supported, listened to and empowered to do their best work. We also want to create an environment where people can share ideas, challenge the way things are done and help shape the future of the business.

That approach extends to our clients, partners and supply chain too. Collaboration is key to solving problems and delivering better outcomes.

Q. How does the rebrand support your long-term ambitions?

A. It gives us a stronger platform for growth and a clearer way of communicating the breadth of what we offer.

But growth isn’t simply about becoming bigger. It’s about becoming better – investing in our people, technology and capabilities while continuing to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions for our clients.

Q. What are you most excited about for the future?

A. There’s a lot to be excited about. We see real opportunities to combine our technical expertise and self-delivery capabilities to give clients greater certainty, value and sustainability.

Innovation and lower-carbon delivery will continue to be important, and we’re excited about our people and what they can help us achieve.

We have a strong heritage to build on, but we’re focused on what comes next – continuing to progress, challenge what’s possible and build a business that our people are proud to be part of.

A big thank you to John and the Multipave Infrastructure team for taking the time to share their story and insights with us.
