An exciting new partnership between the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and Primary Engineer has been announced which will see both organisations move forward in their shared mission to promote careers in highways and transport technology to children and young people.
Primary Engineer will become an LCRIG Partner Member, joining LCRIG’s growing community of over 300 members. The partnership formalises the growing relationship between the two organisations, which will see a key focus on skills and how as a sector we can inspire and attract the next generation.
Plans for collaboration include Primary Engineer exhibiting at this year’s Innovation and Learning Festival, in the newly created Academia and Association Zone. They will be showcasing some of the brilliant young thinking, pictures and ideas that have been shortlisted at the “If you were an Engineer” competitions. Since 2005, Primary Engineer has developed an engineering curriculum that spans Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education institutions. Its core aims include; the development of children and young people through engagement with engineering, the promotion of engineering careers through inspiring programmes and competitions, the development of engineering skills for teachers and practitioners addressing the inequalities in engineering.
Commenting on the partnership, Susan Scurlock MBE, Founder and Chief Executive, Primary Engineer, said: “We are delighted to be joining LCRIG as a member organisation and connecting with their dynamic community of industry leaders in the highways and transportation sector. We take engineering into Primary and Secondary Schools across the UK and we are looking forward to collaborating with the LCRIG members to help inspire those ‘Engineers in the Making’ highlighting the career pathways and amazing opportunities that exist across the sector.”

In the academic year 2021-22, Primary Engineer’s programmes and activities have a national footprint engaging over 65,000 pupils. Susan and I, and our teams have some exciting plans for our partnership that will benefit both organisation’s ambitions.
“This partnership will also see us continue to strengthen our reach, which now extends across 97% of all Councils in England, with 87% of these actively engaged in our initiatives on a regular basis. We also have over 160 Associate (supply chain) members, 28 Partner Members and 10 Academia members. By partnering with organisations from across the sector, LCRIG offers a diverse perspective and provides a unique voice on behalf of the highways community.”
