Gaist CEO Steve Birdsall has highlighted the ethos behind Gaist’s transformative approach to delivering data that works for highways stakeholders, featured in the recently-published case study following their participation in the Zenzic CAM Scale Up Programme.
He said:’‘We designed a methodology that enables us to look at the entire roadscape, not just the road itself.’”
In recent years, Gaist has looked to expand their well-established roadscape intelligence offering by bringing in complimentary datasets to provide leading edge insights to decision makers and operators on the road network in various forms.
Recognising that the CAV/CAM (connected and autonomous vehicles/connected and automated mobility) ecosystem both creates and consumes huge amounts of data, Gaist are actively combining their forensic roadscape insight with additional data such as from connected vehicle and historic road incident data.
With their selection as key partners for the CAM Scale Up Programme, this approach has been recognised by Zenzic and its partners as a critical component in improving highways and highways safety for all road users.
In this collaboration, featuring Smart Mobility Living Labs, Greenwich Council, Exeros and UTAC Millbrook, Gaist have now further expanded their unique roadscape intelligence offering with additional data insights and on-the-ground testing.
More specifically, the project was exploring:
- The impact of temporary (such as roadworks) or permanent (such as new build or closure) changes on braking behaviour and areas of risk
- Changes in pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular movement patterns caused by an infrastructure intervention
Equipped with these insights, highways and “place based” authorities could:
- Push notifications to notify fleet drivers about areas of increased or heightened risk through their in-cab management system
- Test capability to push notifications to CAV’s and their occupants about the risk associated with a particular route or location.
Gaist are pleased to announce that you can now see an in-depth account of the outputs of the project- to view the full video interview with Steve and project outline you can click here.
