A compact reboundable marker post developed by Traffic Management Products Ltd (TMP) is helping to create a clear and highly visible boundary between cyclists and live traffic on Tolworth High Street.
Active travel schemes often require clear separation between cycle routes and the carriageway, particularly on busy urban roads where space is limited. Products must be visible to approaching drivers without adding unnecessary clutter or creating another rigid object within the streetscape.
The Mini Metro was developed by TMP as a more visible and robust alternative to traditional flat-blade marker posts. Based on the company’s proven Metro RSRB rebound bollard, it has been condensed into a compact design for cycle lanes, shared-use paths and active travel routes.
Standing 960 mm tall and weighing 3.8 kg, the Mini Metro incorporates a 150 mm sign face for cycle route, shared-path and directional symbols. A highly reflective 665 mm front panel helps maintain visibility at night and during poor weather.
Its reboundable construction allows the marker to flex if struck before returning upright, reducing the likelihood of it being left damaged or difficult to see.
On Tolworth High Street, the cycle lane is separated from the carriageway using two concrete kerbs laid back-to-back. The Mini Metro units were fixed directly to the concrete using anchor bolts, providing a straightforward installation without excavation.
The completed scheme gives approaching drivers a continuous and highly visible boundary while helping cyclists feel more clearly separated from buses and other vehicles using the carriageway.

Following installations in Tolworth, Camden and Islington, the Mini Metro is attracting interest from other local authorities looking for a practical marker post for active travel routes.
The Mini Metro has been tested to BS EN 12767:2007 to 100:NE:4.
