Do You Know an Inspirational Apprentice?

Across the highways and transport road infrastructure technology sector, apprentices are making a real difference.

They are stepping up on site, supporting teams, bringing fresh thinking into organisations and showing a level of commitment that goes beyond their role description. Many are not only developing their own skills, but actively motivating and supporting those around them.

The DfT Special Recognition Inspirational Apprentice Award 2026, sponsored by WJ Group, has been created to recognise exactly that.

“We’re proud to be sponsoring the DfT Special Recognition Apprentice Awards once again at this year’s LCRIG Innovation Festival. Apprentices continue to play a vital role in our industry, bringing fresh ideas, new perspectives and helping to shape the future of our sector. It’s a real privilege to recognise and celebrate their dedication, talent and hard work in supporting the delivery of a safer more efficient road network for all road users, and we’re delighted to sponsor the Inspirational Apprentice Award once again.”  Wayne Johnston, CEO, WJ Group

Celebrating those who go above and beyond

The Inspirational Apprentice Award celebrates apprentices in the highways and transport road infrastructure technology sector who go above and beyond to motivate and inspire those around them.

This award honours apprentices who not only excel in their roles but also leave a lasting, positive impact on their colleagues, the highways and transport technology sector, and the wider community, acting as role models for their peers and ambassadors for the industry.

Whether it is demonstrating leadership beyond their level, supporting fellow apprentices, championing innovation or promoting inclusion and diversity, this award recognises those who embody the future of the sector.

 Why Enter?

Apprentices are central to addressing the skills challenges facing the sector. Recognising those who inspire others helps to:

  • Showcase the value of apprenticeship pathways
  • Raise the profile of emerging talent
  • Encourage a culture of support, ambition and excellence
  • Demonstrate the strength of the next generation workforce

For employers, nominating an apprentice is an opportunity to celebrate the individuals who are making a tangible difference within your organisation and across the wider industry.

For apprentices, entering the award can strengthen your professional profile, build confidence and provide recognition at a national level.

How to Enter

Entries can be submitted by apprentices themselves, or nominations can be made by employers, training providers or colleagues.

If you know an inspirational apprentice, now is the time to put them forward.
