With Paula, Susanne and Kerry currently working very hard at the ITS World Congress in Dubai, the Sector Insights team have the pleasure of bringing you the View from the Top this week!
We are a new team within LCRIG, and our primary purpose is to undertake practical and helpful research based on the wealth of data and intelligence that we are able to gather or that we learn. We believe that we can deliver insights and practical support which can help our members in areas of concern that they have raised.
It’s certainly been a busy period for us as we have started to develop our Research and Insights work plan for 2025, with lots of exciting but practical ideas in the mix already… we’ll elaborate more on the plan in the near future.
However, we are clear that we will not be replicating the great work that many of our partners undertake, instead we will be looking at the thorny issues our members raise. Our work will also give us a chance to look at the near-view challenges (often raised in the LCRIG LA regional groups or directly by councils and suppliers), and we will take a practical look at longer term challenges that the sector will need to prepare for. There will also be some limited opportunities for supplier sponsored insight work, so if you are interested in getting involved in this, please let us know.
On 5th September we launched our focused Innovation Survey. The objective of the survey is to gather a comprehensive range of perspectives and views from across the sector in order to obtain insights and findings on the theme of innovation, which we can, in-turn, report back to our members, ensuring that we deliver in accordance with our members’ needs.
This is the first time we have launched such a large-scale and extensive survey for the purpose of gathering our member’s views on a specific area of interest. With more than half of the Local Authorities in England and over 40 suppliers already completing the survey, this has been a great start, so a huge thank you to those that have completed it so far.

Your views are invaluable to us, and Karla will be relaying some preliminary findings and reflections from the survey results at Strictly Highways on 1st-3rd October, so be sure not to miss that.
Dan is currently in the process of meeting the TTF Group leads, the LCRIG regional group chairs and LCRIG board members in order to get an understanding of their views on where and how we can better support the wider sector. In addition to this Dan will be supporting the TTF research projects so that learning from those areas can be captured and disseminated more widely. These meetings are important to ensure we deliver the right programme for next year.
