The public consultation period for the new standard for Road Condition monitoring has now opened.
The Department for Transport has been in consultation with councils, suppliers and industry professionals regarding the introduction a new specification for Road condition monitoring (RCM) data. This is the data that councils are required to submit formally under the “single data list” requirements.
The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) has supported DfT throughout the research process by facilitating a number of workshops, surveys and attendance at events.
Laura Murphy, Head of Road Network Statistics: Road lengths and Road Condition, Road Network Statistics, Department for Transport and Alex Wright, Chief Technologist at TRL, who has been appointed technical author, updated delegates at last year’s Strictly Highways on the new standard for road condition monitoring and the findings from a network study.
LCRIG’s Chief Executive, Paula Claytonsmith sits on the Steering Committee alongside committee members from a diverse background, representing both public and private sector.
Paula commented “At LCRIG, we work with 97% of all Councils in England, 87% of these are committed and regular participants of LCRIG activities. We also facilitate our regional and specialist groups which have over 120 regular and engaged Councils attending. With over 160 Associate (supply chain) members, we offer a unique perspective and we are proud to continue to support DfT to engage with the highways community.”

- BSI Public Consultation of PAS 2161 closes at midnight, UK time – 07 May 2024
- Approval Start Date – 19 August 2024
Only comments submitted via the Standards Development Portal website will be accepted and no comments submitted after that date will be accepted.
