The official report into this year’s Transport Technology Forum Live event in Leicestershire has been released, explaining how connected vehicle services have moved from theory to real-world development.
As well as its usual discussions and presentations, this year’s TTF conference at the Hinckley Island Hotel featured a series of demonstrations on the hotel’s perimeter road and Leicestershire County Council and National Highways roads, showing connected services operating in real time, as well as the data behind the technology being explained in the event’s “Engine Room”.

The TTF Conference Report paints a picture of a highways sector rapidly preparing for the operational rollout of connected vehicle services, with local authorities, suppliers and the Department for Transport aligning on how data-led transport technology will be delivered across the UK road network.
The conference repeatedly highlighted the growing importance of common standards, interoperability and data governance, with speakers stressing that much of the technology already exists and the next challenge is ensuring systems can operate consistently across different authorities and suppliers. The report also reflects an increasing shift towards predictive and proactive traffic management, with connected vehicle data expected to support real-time warnings and alerts, smarter congestion management, improved incident response and more informed network operations.
Updates to the Manual for Smart Streets (MfSS) also featured prominently, with the document continuing to evolve as a practical framework for authorities deploying transport technology and digital infrastructure.
169 Local Authority personnel from 56 different administrations attended, and heard from key industry leaders including the DfT’s new Chief Scientific Adviser Professor Patricia Thornley and Deputy Director, Traffic and Technology, Gavin James.
TTF Live! was organised by the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and sponsored by TPXimpact. The high-level round table was sponsored by AECOM, networking by Yunex Traffic and live demonstrations by WSP. It was supported by a number of exhibitors and demonstrators. Brightly Software, Clearview Intelligence, elastic, Indra Sistemas, Messagemaker Displays, Mobile VMS, NAL, NIRA Dynamics AB, Openweather, Q-Free, Rennicks, Roadside Technologies, Simplifai Systems, SRL Traffic Systems, Standby Group, SWARCO, TagMaster UK, Teledyne FLIR, TRL, Vaisala, VivaCity and Westcotec exhibited, while HAAS Alert, Immense Solutions, INRIX, AECOM and Kapsch, Mobile VMS, Portsmouth City Council and KL Systems, Rennicks, SkyFarer and Coventry City Council, Standby Group, SWARCO and VESOS were involved in the demonstrations.
