Final Call for Local Authorities to Take Part in the ALARM 2026 Survey

There is still time to submit information into this year’s Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey and the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), which commissions the independent survey, is urging local authorities to take part.

AIA Chair, David Giles said: “The AIA’s ALARM survey reports on the current condition of the local road network in England and Wales and the funding allocated to its upkeep and has become the go-to report for anyone looking for local road maintenance and funding data.

“Against the backdrop of recent highway budget allocations across the next four years, it is more important than ever that we collect robust data on the condition of local roads to support informed decision making.”

Last year’s survey received submissions from a record 78% of local authorities in England and Wales and the AIA is hoping to build on that in 2026. It is keen for as many local authorities as possible to submit data into the ALARM survey, even if they are only able to answer some of the questions or sections.

Over the last few years, the ALARM survey has been hosting questions in conjunction with LCRIG on a range of different topics. Last year – and again in 2026 – we are collaborating to capture local authorities’ approaches to achieving their net zero ambitions to better understand what more needs to be done to support a move to a lower carbon future.

The AIA sent out unique survey links in December to named contacts.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, 30th January, however an extension can be provided until Monday, 9th February if required.

To request an extension, please contact the AIA team: telephone: 0117 428 8725 or email: info@asphaltuk.org.
