This week may have been a short one for me, I’ve taken a few days’ leave and I’m very ready to enjoy being a tourist for a little while but wow, and yes I’m going to use that word, what a mighty few days it’s been!
As you’ll have seen from Kerry’s introduction, we’ve officially launched our Innovation Report, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ve been talking about it, hinting at it, and building excitement for a while now, so to finally see it out in the world feels incredible!
This report has been a huge collective effort. We surveyed our members, rigorously validated the findings, tested them in our regional groups, shared them at events, and refined them with input from both our LCRIG Advisory Board and Innovation Board. We didn’t stop there. At our last two-member drop-ins with over 200 attendees we tested what LCRIG should do in response to the findings. We listened, we refined, and only then did we feel confident to hit publish.
On Tuesday, Kerry, Susanne, and I headed to London to meet with our colleagues at the Department for Transport. We shared the report’s insights, our research, and our vision for how we’ll support the sector going forward. We’ve always had a strong relationship with DfT, but this time felt extra significant, and yes, we were a little apprehensive! But the response? Energising and positive. This isn’t just a report for us, it marks a major step into LCRIG 3.0 and our work going forward.
We’ll continue doing everything you know and value, but this report paves the way for new services, new ideas, and yes, an expanding future team. I’m genuinely bursting with pride, and the insight and intelligence we now hold around innovation will be a powerful asset in supporting councils, government, and our wider membership.
And if that wasn’t enough to keep the adrenaline high, it’s also been a wonderfully creative week. One of the most joyful jobs has been reviewing the speaking submissions for Strictly Highways. We’ve received some brilliant proposals, and alongside feedback from councils at the festival and regional groups, I’m confident that this year’s programme is shaping up to be one of our best yet. Diverse topics, dynamic speakers, and sessions tailored for the broadest range of attendees we’ve ever had.
Yes, we might be heading into holiday season, but trust me, Autumn is going to be buzzing at LCRIG. To all our council members, are you ready for Strictly Highways yet? And for those late public sector bookers don’t delay or we might not be able to squeeze you in! 😊
