National Highways to Showcase Cyber Futures at Innovation and Learning Festival

National Highways Cyber Futures team will be exhibiting their latest innovations and insights at next week’s Innovation and Learning Festival. Acting as a horizon-scanning function, the team supports National Highways in adopting emerging technologies securely – from Connected and Autonomous Plant (CAP) to IoT devices, to drones and other innovations. They also have a strong focus on the convergence of safety and security, and what it means for how we adapt.

A key area of the team’s work is artificial intelligence and its associated risks. At the festival attendees will be able to experience the CEO-matic demonstration, a fun and interactive display that shows how deep fake fraud can deceive and mislead – and gain valuable tips for spotting it.

National Highways will also be presenting other interactive demonstrations across their stand, including:

  • AI Hack-in-a-Box – which shows how someone could physically change road signs to impact image recognition and what an adversarial attack could look like.
  • Digital Safety Moments – a series of interactive presentations covering a range of security topics, in a fun and engaging way.

Speaking about why it is important for them to be at the festival, a representative said:

‘We see that roads are becoming more connected systems, which brings new security risks, and we are unlikely to be able to work in isolation. We’re facing similar problems, and so we are looking forward to sharing our work and learning from others to better work together to protect the UKs infrastructure!’

National Highways can be found at Stand 78 in the indoor exhibition hall throughout the event.

The team will also be presenting in the Innovation Think Pavilion on Wednesday, 2 July at 11:00am – with their session ‘Roadside Assistance: When Your AI Gets Tricked at 70mph’. The talk will cover their approach to tackling these challenges, from applied research to academic partnerships, along with valuable lessons learned and the products enabling safe use and trials of emerging technologies.
