QMS has been working closely with Devon County Council to remove thermoplastic line markings and replace them with cold-applied systems (MMA) amongst others areas including junctions. In addition to being a cold applied product, MMA offers large environmental benefits compared to thermoplastic line markings, reducing the amount of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere on application and lasting up to five times longer.
The QMS team installed the markings from a small van using bespoke traffic management vehicles to ensure as little disruption as possible to the public.
This joint effort reflects both QMS and Devon County Council’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. A shared goal of reducing microplastic pollution in oceans underpins this initiative, aligning with QMS’s broader mission to deliver sustainable solutions.
QMS’s environmental leadership has been recognised across the industry. The company was named Winner of the Sustainability Superstar Award 2023 at The Notty’s and was a finalist in the Highways Sustainability and Safety Enhancements Awards, after achieving a CO₂ reduction of 286.1 tonnes over a three-year period for Egis.
