The AIA Calls on Local Authorities to Participate in the ALARM Survey

There is still time to submit information into this year’s Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) survey and the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), which commissions the independent survey, is urging local authorities to take part.

AIA Chair, David Giles said: “This year will see the publication of the 30th consecutive ALARM survey, which reports on the current condition of the local road network in England and Wales and the funding allocated to its upkeep.

“Against the backdrop of recent highway budget allocations and the Government’s impending Spending Review, it is more important than ever that we collect robust data on the condition of local roads to support informed decision making.”

Last year’s survey received submissions from 72% of local authorities in England and Wales and the AIA is hoping to build on that in 2025. It is keen for as many local authorities as possible to submit data into the ALARM survey, even if they are only able to answer some of the questions or sections.

Over the last few years, the ALARM survey has been hosting questions on behalf of LCRIG on a range of different topics. Last year – and again in 2025 – we are collaborating to capture local authorities’ approaches to achieving their net zero ambitions to better understand what more needs to be done to support a move to a lower carbon future.

The AIA sent out unique survey links in December to named contacts.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, 31st January, however an extension can be provided until Friday, 7th February if required.
