We are thrilled to announce that entries are now open for the newly launched DfT Special Recognition Apprentice Awards. These prestigious awards aim to celebrate the exceptional talent and growth within the highways and transport technology sector, honouring the outstanding contributions of young professionals in the early stages of their careers.
The new awards are part of the Innovation and Learning Festival, taking place from 2-3 July at the NAEC Stoneleigh. The awards presentation will be held on the afternoon of 2nd July, ahead of the evening networking event. This relaxed and informal celebration will shine a spotlight on the incredible talent and growth driving the future of our sector.

DfT Special Recognition Inspirational Apprentice Award
The Inspirational Apprentice Award celebrates apprentices in the highways and transport technology sector who go above and beyond to motivate and inspire those around them.
This award honours apprentices who not only excel in their roles but also leave a lasting, positive impact on their colleagues, the highways and transport technology sector, and the wider community, acting as role models for their peers and ambassadors for the industry.
DfT Special Recognition Exceptional Frontline Apprentice Award
The Exceptional Frontline Apprentice Award celebrates apprentices who make outstanding contributions in frontline roles within the highways and transport technology sector.
This award honours apprentices who demonstrate outstanding skills, dependability, and an ability to innovate, going above and beyond to make a tangible difference in their teams and communities.
DfT Special Recognition Outstanding Achievement Award
Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4-6 Apprenticeship Awards
These awards celebrate excellence among Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4-6 apprentices in the highways and transport technology sector.
The awards honour apprentices who have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication and growth in their apprenticeship. Contributing positively to their workplace and wider community.
Competition – Inspiring the Future: Attracting Young People to the Highways and Transport Technology Sector
We’re also excited to launch a new competition to discover the creative ideas that will inspire and attract young people to careers in the highways and transport technology sector.
This sector plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable, efficient, and connected infrastructure, yet many young people remain unaware of the career opportunities it offers.
We need your big ideas to inspire the next generation and show them the potential opportunities available across the sector. Whether it’s a compelling campaign or an innovative initiative, we want to hear your solutions to this challenge!

The DfT Special Recognition Apprentice Awards are open to all, with nominations welcomed from employers, training providers, or directly from apprentices themselves.
Please note, shortlisted entrants will be required to be represented at the awards ceremony.
