We are delighted to announce the launch of LCRIG’s first two Task Groups in early 2025!
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the benefits we offer our members, and following extensive discussions across the sector, we have identified the need to establish dedicated task groups to collaboratively tackle key themes and areas of interest. After consulting with you, our members, on the most pertinent topics to address, we are pleased to introduce the first two groups: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Group and Apprenticeship Task Group.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence has emerged as a rapidly evolving area of interest across the highways and transportation sector, influencing a wide range of services and solutions. From public sector challenges to private sector innovations, AI has become a transformative force that we must collectively understand and harness.
The AI Task Group will provide a collaborative forum for members to share experiences, explore AI applications, and discuss its potential benefits, barriers, and future possibilities.
The group will work together to define a work programme and develop outputs that deliver tangible value to the sector, such as good practice guides, case studies, or thematic reports.
We invite expressions of interest from public and private sector members to join this group and contribute to shaping its direction. If you are interested, please email us at info@lcrig.org.uk by Monday, 16th December. In your email, include a brief description of:
- Why you’re interested in joining;
- Specific areas or applications of AI you’d like the group to explore;
Additionally, we are looking to appoint dual chairs for the group – one from the public sector and one from the private sector. If you are interested in this role, please let us know in your email, along with an explanation of why you are suited to chair this exciting initiative.
Apprenticeship Task Group
With the growing need to address the skills gap in our sector, the Apprenticeship Task Group will focus on supporting apprenticeships and nurturing a skilled, innovative workforce. This group will be chaired by Keely Metcalfe, Relationship Manager at LCRIG, who has been very involved in launching the Highways Maintenance Academy in partnership with Salford City College.
This group will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival 2025 will deliver meaningful content for apprentices. This includes shaping CPD sessions, live demonstrations, and workshops to make the event accessible and valuable for apprentices at all levels across the sector.
The Apprenticeship Task Group will also support and promote the DfT Special Recognition Apprentice Awards, celebrating emerging talent and growth in our sector.
To ensure participation is inclusive, LCRIG is offering fully funded places for apprentices from both public and private sector organisations to attend the Innovation & Learning Festival. This initiative aims to provide new professionals with invaluable learning opportunities and inspiration for their careers.
We are inviting apprentices and graduates from across the sector to actively participate in the Apprenticeship Task Group. By involving apprentices and graduates at various levels and in diverse roles, we aim to ensure the group reflects a wide range of perspectives and experiences.
