It is well documented that there is a skills shortage within the highways sector, and it is a huge challenge to attract, train and retain employees. Ultimately, this contributes to the safety of UK roads and has an environmental impact when increased resources are being used because of below standard repairs and the similar. To help overcome this, UltraCrete are offering the opportunity for Highway workers to become UCARS Accredited.
The UltraCrete Accredited Reinstatement Specification (UCARS) course is a training qualification in ironwork reinstatement best practice, and follows all regulations and guidance issued by the RSTA Specification of the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways. It aims to reduce company costs by improving productivity, whilst increasing standards and therefore the safety and longevity of roads.
The course is suitable even for the experienced; it provides career progression at any level and will enhance an individual’s skill set. Once completed, this industry-recognised qualification will improve the knowledge and expertise of all those who attend. Strengthening their foundations for their future career path within the highways industry.
The purpose of UCARS is to provide knowledge and education across the road network within the industry to local authorities, businesses and contractors alike. This in turn will provide a greater skilled workforce across our ever-growing highways network, resulting in safer roads and the reallocation of financial resources.
Developed in-line with listed regulated specifications, the one day training course consists of a morning’s theory session, followed by an afternoon getting hands-on with UltraCrete materials.
The trainee will become a recognised professional in the use of the UltraCrete portfolio of products for all carriageway reinstatements.
UltraCrete provide a choice of three training locations for their UCARS course:
- UltraCrete’s head office in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
- Salford City College Highway Maintenance Academy in Greater Manchester
- Alternatively, at your premises (subject to suitable facilities being available for use).
To date, 244 delegates have attended and achieved the UCARS accreditation.
