Responding on behalf of Intelligent Transport Systems UK (ITS UK), Chief Executive Max Sugarman said: “ITS UK Members will welcome these two inquiries launched 30 June, covering the use of data and the UK’s strategic transport goals – two key issues for the future of transport policy.
“It is particularly positive to see the role of data being considered by the Committee. With the UK transport system producing more data than ever before, there are huge opportunities to make greater use of this often-untapped resource to better understand the real-time state of the network, develop new transport services, support the public to make informed choices about how they travel, help transport authorities plan more effectively, support decarbonisation, improve safety and much more. Considerations like privacy and cybersecurity are becoming ever more important too, as we make greater use of the data around us, so it’s crucial that Government and industry are working together to ensure we’re getting the approach right. “We look forward to working with the Committee on both these inquiries, which together could set out a clear path for a more effective and integrated transport system, and a safer, greener and more efficient options for the travelling public.”
