What do the statistics tell us about last week’s superb LCRIG Innovation Festival;
- Local authority members commitment to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on innovation trials with exhibitors
- 59 exhibitors
- Over 60 different local highway authorities in attendance
- DfT, National Highways, Welsh Government and other key bodies represented over the two days
- Over 450 delegates

In other words, the event was a fantastic success so I can’t tell you how proud I am of the whole LCRIG team.
I think the lasting memory I will take away from the festival is the buzz amongst everyone who attended and an atmosphere I have not witnessed, except perhaps at Strictly Highways, for many years and I think this was down to the whole set up including;
- Internal exhibitors being in the same hall as the theatre
- Exceptional standard of presentations and panel sessions with my particular highlight being last years recipients of the £150k LCRIG/Steve Berry Think Exceptional Innovation Fund, sponsored by WJ
- Superb live demonstrations outside the main hall showing the latest innovations on offer. This showed off the versatility of our sector from large plant and equipment from the likes of WJ, JCB and Tarmac through to smaller, but equally impressive innovations, with the likes of iTip with their ergonomic handles
- Brilliant live music from Andrew Gillbanks (Colas) and The Kicks during the evening
- Exceptional level of interaction between exhibitors, delegates and presenters
I’m already looking forward to what we might do next year, but before that our attention will switch to Strictly Highways later this year so watch this space for further updates.
