A four week consultation on making Monton more cycle and pedestrian friendly has been launched by Salford City Council.
Several traffic-free routes converge on the village, which is popular for its bars and cafes. These include the Bridgewater Canal, the Roe Green Loopline and the soon to be completed Swinton Greenway but busy roads and roundabouts can put people off walking and cycling.
The Greater Manchester Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund is offering funding to develop proposals that encourage more ‘green’ travel in Monton but comments from the consultation will help fill in the details to help the council secure funding to deliver the changes.
Councillor Mike McCusker, lead member for planning and sustainable development, said: “There is huge potential to really boost cycling and walking in and around Monton and help make our roads safer but we need funding to make those changes.
“This is a real change for your comments to shape the final acheme and it is open to everyone who lives, works or visits Monton to have their say on the proposed changes.”
