Vacancy – Leeds City Council – Network Support Officer

The City of Leeds is rapidly changing and the Network Management team plays a central role in this process ensuring the effective operation of the city’s highway network, preventing unnecessary disruption for people, goods and services.

The team works with a wide range of people and organisations such as individual residents, developers, utility providers and internal works promoters as part of our duties. This planned work ranges from the licencing of skips through to the co-ordination of major highway works and international events such as the AJ Bell World Triathlon and Tour De Yorkshire. In addition, the team plays a leading role in the Council’s incident management processes when they impact on the network.

To help manage this activity, the Council’s roadworks permit scheme has recently been amended to apply to all streets maintained by Leeds City Council, allowing greater control over the whole network and movement of traffic throughout the city. As a consequence of this and the unprecedented amount of large schemes planned for the next few years through programmes including the Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme and our Connecting Leeds proposals, we have a number of opportunities in the team at various levels.

These include the position of Network Support Officer. Working within the Network Management Support teams the position will play a vital role in performing and supporting Network Management operations. The post holder will provide day to day supervision of Assistant Network Co-ordinators or Assistant Network Officers. In addition the post holder will be responsible for customer service activities, communicating with members of the public, Statutory Undertakers and stakeholders to answer queries, invoicing and resolve highways issues. Applicants will actively deal with highways activities and construction in accordance with New Roads and Street Works Act, Traffic Management Act 2004, Highways Act.
