LCRIG to deliver series of webinars on subject of net zero

The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) has teamed up with Colas and Breedon to deliver an exclusive webinar series entitled ‘Practical steps on the journey to net zero’.

Colas and Breedon will act as the primary partners for the series which will explore in detail the work being done to accelerate the transition to clean energy and sustainable roads.

The roads sector is under increasing pressure to adapt to improving environmental standards and expectations of government and society; including bringing all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

There are several steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this goal, but of critical importance is understanding the vital role local authorities and their highway departments play.

A launch webinar will kick off the series in March and will set out the breadth of the challenge faced with a focus on working towards solutions to help the sector reach net zero.

A series of further webinars will then be delivered during 2022, covering carbon reduction in fleet, materials, asset management and street lighting.

LCRIG Content Director Alec Peachey said: “Reaching net zero has become the number one priority for many of our members. But they need help to get there. This series of webinars will explore the latest thinking in this area, looking at the challenges and opportunities with the aim of helping the sector.

“We are delighted that Colas and Breedon have come onboard as primary partners to support this important series. As a business Colas recognise that the UK infrastructure of tomorrow is being driven by innovation and the ability to deliver value. It needs to be sustainable, smart, and practical to build and maintain.

“Likewise, Breedon’s products play an important role in the UK’s economic development. As a company they are working hard to reduce the impact of their operations on people and the environment. We will be working closely with both partners and other supporters throughout the year to bring our members engaging content which is designed to inform and help them do their jobs.”

David Ogden, National Operations Director at Colas, said “Decarbonisation is driving a significant shift for the future of all industries, by working together our sector can certainly deliver against this challenge. We are delighted to be supporting this webinar series from LCRIG which will deliver a collaborative, innovative approach.”

James Haluch, Managing Director, Surfacing Solutions, Breedon said: “Delivering a zero-carbon economy is one of the biggest challenges for businesses today. It’s important that our sector works collaboratively to achieve a decarbonised industry to achieve a net zero goal. We’re delighted to part of this process, and we look forward to learning and adopting new innovation that will support a more sustainable future for our industry.”
