AWARD SUBMISSION FORM

Future of Local Roads: Apprentice Innovation Competition

Do you have an idea that could make a real difference in your community? The Future of Local Roads: Apprentice Innovation Competition is your chance!

We’re challenging apprentices across the sector to identify a highways or transportation-related issue in their local area and develop an innovative solution that could improve safety, efficiency, accessibility, or sustainability on our local networks.

Your idea could focus on anything from smarter road maintenance, greener transport options, improved accessibility, better data use, or community engagement.

Finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to industry leaders, with winners receiving recognition, the chance to have their concept featured through LCRIG’s platforms and a cash prize!

Criteria

1. Identify a Local Challenge

a. Choose a real-world problem related to highways or transport in your community.
b. Provide a short description of the issue and why it matters.

2. Propose your Innovative Solution

a. Outline your creative idea — how would it solve or improve the issue?
b. What makes it innovative? (e.g., new approach, use of technology, community focus, low-cost implementation, etc.)
c. Include images, drawings, a prototype of the product/solution or any other supporting material needed.

3. Explain the Impact

a. Who would benefit from your idea?
b. What outcomes would you expect (e.g., safer roads, greener transport, cost savings)?
