DfT Special Recognition Inspirational Apprentice Award 2025

The Inspirational Apprentice Award celebrates apprentices in the highways and transport technology sector who go above and beyond to motivate and inspire those around them.

This award honours apprentices who not only excel in their roles but also leave a lasting, positive impact on their colleagues, the highways and transport technology sector, and the wider community, acting as role models for their peers and ambassadors for the industry.

Criteria:

Advocacy for Apprenticeships and the Sector: Promotes the value of apprenticeships and the highways and transport technology sector through outreach, mentorship, or advocacy.

Represents their organisation positively at events, in the community, or on social media, inspiring others to consider a similar career path.

Role model and leader: Acts as a role model for others, encourages and supports their peers, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity.

Offers creative solutions to challenges, contributing to improved processes or outcomes in the workplace. Encourages others to think innovatively and embrace new ideas or approaches.

Positive Impact on Workplace Culture: Plays an active role in building a positive, supportive, and inclusive workplace environment. Goes beyond their responsibilities to support team goals, enhance morale, or resolve conflicts effectively, having a recognised impact on others.

Community and Environmental Impact: Leads or participates in initiatives that benefit the local community or environment, such as volunteering, sustainability projects, or road safety programs.

Inspires others to engage in community or environmental efforts through their actions and leadership.

Overcoming Challenges: The nominee may have overcome significant challenges during their apprenticeship, demonstrating resilience, determination, and the ability to learn from setbacks to achieve success, serving as an inspiration to others.

Maximum 1,500 words per entry

Eligibility:

  • The nominee must be enrolled in, or have completed, an apprenticeship programme in highways or transport technology within the last 12 months.
  • Apprentices must have completed at least six months of their apprenticeship by the application deadline.
  • Nominations are welcome from employers, training providers, or directly from the apprentice.

You can save and resume your entry as many times as needed until you’re ready to submit. Once submitted, you won’t be able to make further edits.

This competition is open to all apprentices. Please note that if shortlisted, you will be required to be at the awards presentation which will take place on the afternoon of 2nd July, ahead of the evening networking event. This relaxed and informal celebration will shine a spotlight on the incredible talent and growth driving the future of our sector. Public sector and private sector individual delegate places and tables at the awards evening are available, with fully funded places for apprentices.
