DfT Special Recognition Exceptional Frontline Apprentice Award 2026
The Exceptional Frontline Apprentice Award celebrates apprentices who make outstanding contributions in frontline roles within the highways and road infrastructure technology sector.
This award honours apprentices who demonstrate outstanding skills, dependability, and an ability to innovate, going above and beyond to make a tangible difference in their teams and communities.
Criteria
Positive Impact on the Frontline: Consistently goes above and beyond in their role, showing exceptional performance, dedication and commitment and making a difference within their teams, organisation, and the local community.
Innovation and Problem Solving: Demonstrates determination and resilience when working under challenging conditions, such as extreme weather, traffic management demands, or tight deadlines, while maintaining high performance.
Proactively identifies opportunities to improve processes, tools, or procedures, such as new methods, equipment, or training processes – and develops or implements practical solutions.
Commitment to Safety: Identifies and mitigates safety risks, such as hazards to road users, colleagues, or pedestrians, and actively contributes to implementing solutions such as road safety improvements, clear signage, or improved processes.
Team Collaboration: Acts as a reliable and supportive team member, demonstrating a willingness to help colleagues.
Applies new knowledge and skills to enhance performance, benefiting their team, projects, and the wider highways and transport technology sector.

This competition is open to all apprentices. Please note that if shortlisted, you will be required to be at the awards presentation which will take place on the afternoon of 2nd July, ahead of the evening networking event. This relaxed and informal celebration will shine a spotlight on the incredible talent and growth driving the future of our sector.
