AWARD SUBMISSION FORM

Best of Britain Award 2026

Inspired by Will Britain, the founder of LCRIG, this award celebrates a public sector individual working on the officer or Manager side of a local authority who has gone above and beyond to engage with their local community, improve local services, change local perceptions, or play a key part in the sector.

There are many lifetime achievement awards across the industry and private sector awards but with this award we celebrate a public sector employee, whatever their grade.

How is the award selected?

  • Suggestions with evidence from the LCRIG Team of individuals across the sector.
  • Suggestions with evidence made by DfT Colleagues (Highways Maintenance and Traffic Technology teams).
  • Suggestions with evidence from anyone in the sector (individual or organisation) using the nomination form.

What evidence might help to suggest an individual?

Evidence might include working within deprived areas, working with diverse communities that don’t traditionally engage with councils, working with elected members, going above and beyond to push for collaboration across public and private sector, someone who drives to be inclusive in their work.

The individual does not need to be in a senior officer role and may well be the type of person that works hard behind the scenes to deliver a good service.

Tips:

The judges are looking for evidence or other examples that demonstrate an exceptional person that may have had:

  • Positive impact on theirs and others work areas.
  • Involvement in external community groups or suggested ways to do this more effectively.
  • Commitment to Highways and how it can help local groups, economy (businesses or tourism).
  • Other ways that demonstrate the impact this person has had.

Eligibility:

Officer or Manager within a Local Authority.

Response limit:

1,500 words maximum.

Submission deadline:

17:00hrs, Friday 21st August 2026.
