We’re delighted to announce the launch of the Hackathon Sprint: Climate-Ready Networks -From Recovery to Resilience, at this month’s LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival, taking place on 24–25 June at the NAEC, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.
As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, local highways authorities face an increasingly difficult challenge. We may not know exactly when the next winter freeze, major flood, or prolonged heatwave will strike, but we know it will come.
The challenge is whether our regions will still be recovering from one event when the next strikes, or have we built the asset management systems, maintenance practices, partnerships and resilience needed to respond effectively.
For too many local highways authorities, the pattern has become all too familiar:
Damage. React. Recover. Repeat.
This cycle places increasing pressure on budgets, stretches already limited resources, and leaves communities vulnerable to prolonged disruption.
The Climate-Ready Networks: From Recovery to Resilience Hackathon Sprint is designed to challenge that cycle head-on.
Drawing on the experience, innovation and expertise that already exists across the sector, we will work together to move beyond discussions about barriers and funding constraints and focus instead on what can be achieved today.

- Innovative ideas and technologies that can accelerate resilience
- Opportunities for collaboration and partnership working
- Long-term strategies that can shape more resilient networks by 2028 and beyond
