Wrekin Products, a leading UK manufacturer of civil engineering solutions, is asking people to have their say in a new report assessing The Evolving Needs of UK Roads.
The whitepaper will provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges facing the nation’s road network, as the country’s maintenance backlog grows to an estimated £17 billion, the highest figure in three decades.
The report will dive into issues facing the road industry, such as financial strictures, the challenges of a changing environment and more, with a particular focus on the best ways to make sure the UK’s highway ironwork is ready for the challenges of the future.
To aid this mission, Wrekin is appealing to the community to respond to a special survey it has created to help build as accurate and complete a view of the situation as possible.
Though it’s simple and quick to fill out, the questionnaire will play a crucial role. Importantly, learning about first-hand experiences will provide the insight required to ensure the report is well-sourced and true-to-life.
Paul Thompson, technical specification and sustainability manager at Wrekin, said: “The UK’s road network is facing huge pressures, as we all know. With increased traffic volumes, changing vehicle trends, extreme weather and budget constraints, we’re also concerned about the conditions that highway ironwork increasingly faces.
“With the Government shifting to long-term, proactive, and preventative highway maintenance , we’d like to delve deeper into this and are keen to understand the industry’s approach to providing long-term solutions.
“Combining these observations with hard data, we hope to crystallise current thinking into an easy-to-digest form, creating a strong new educational resource.”
