TOPAS Initiates Major Review of TOPAS2500 – UK Traffic Signal Controller Standard

The TOPAS Management Board has initiated a major review of the UK standard for traffic signal controllers. A development team from ARTSM has been commissioned to:

  • Review the scope and coverage of Standard 2500
  • Add new content for Light Rail Transit (LRT)
  • Review pedestrian facilities
  • Consider requirements for CAV to align it with current and future traffic control needs

In order to make this review as effective as possible the development team are asking for input from everyone in the signal community.

If there is anything that you think should be covered and is not in 2500, if there are parts of the standard that could be made obsolete, do not your cover particular needs, or could be improved, the development group encourages you to download and fill out a comments sheet from the TOPAS website here: https://topasgroup.org.uk/media/Template-for-comments-TOPAS-Blank.doc

Please add your comments and submit to: enquiries@topasgroup.org.uk by 27th February 2026.
