It was another proud moment for LCRIG as a second cabin was delivered and installed at the Salford City College Group’s Highways Maintenance Academy, expanding the facilities available for the student’s practical training. As part of our ongoing support, we funded the additional cabin to help meet the growing demand and support for the Academy’s continued development.
The site is currently undergoing development to extend the facilities and the new cabin will enable the college to expand its highways maintenance provision, creating more opportunities for apprentices to gain hands on experience and develop the essential skills needed for successful careers in the sector.
Sam Heyes, Highways Maintenance Teacher at Salford City College Group, said:
“The continued support from LCRIG and partners has been invaluable for us a Salford City College Group when setting up and now delivering the Highways maintenance Level 2 apprenticeship.
“We have been donated a second portable classroom via LCRIG which will allow further growth of the Highways and Groundworks provision and also help to introduce the development of short course provision for Highways Maintenance and related occupations. I would like to thank LCRIG and partners for their continued support.”
Keely Metcalfe, Relationship Manager at LCRIG and Chair of the Apprenticeship Task Group, added:
“We are really proud to be continuing our support of the Highways Maintenance Academy. Supporting skills development and creating opportunities for the next generation is vital to the future of the sector. As a CIC, giving back to the sector and helping to address the growing skills shortage is a key part of what we do, and we are delighted to see the Academy going from strength to strength.”
This announcement follows the recent success of the Academy’s first cohort of apprentices, who achieved an incredible 100% pass rate earlier this year.
Help Us Develop the Next Highways Academy
Following the success of our first academy project with Salford City College, we are now partnering with Askham Bryan College to launch a Highways Academy in Yorkshire.
The first cohort of apprentices will start in January 2026, and we are calling on our members and industry partners to get involved.
