Solar Gates UK’s Depot Manager, Rhian Adler, has been named Role Model of the Year at the prestigious Design & Build UK Women in Construction Awards 2025, recognising her resilience, hard work and authenticity in an industry still striving for inclusion.
Rhian, who was also shortlisted for a second category on the night, joined the Solar Gates team from what she describes as an “unconventional background.”
Her rise to becoming a highly respected depot manager has been marked not only by determination but also by her willingness to speak honestly about the challenges faced by women in construction and about her own journey.
Reflecting on the win, Rhian said: “I never imagined myself standing on a stage accepting an award like this. I’ve always just tried to be me – honest, hardworking, and willing to roll my sleeves up. To be recognised for that feels overwhelming, but also a reminder to others that you don’t have to fit a mould to make a difference. If even one person sees this and thinks ‘maybe I can do it too,’ then that’s the real win for me.”
On the night, Rhian’s grandmother joined her at the awards ceremony – a moment that made the recognition even more special. “Having my Nan there was incredible. She’s seen me go through the highs and lows and has always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. To share that moment with her is something I’ll treasure forever.”

The Design & Build UK Women in Construction Awards celebrate the achievements of women across the sector, shining a light on role models who are helping to break down barriers.
Rhian’s win follows a year of continued growth for Solar Gates, where her leadership at depot level has played a vital role in supporting projects nationwide from critical highways infrastructure to innovative solar-powered site safety solutions.
When asked what’s next, Rhian was characteristically humble: “I’ll keep doing what I’ve always done, working hard, learning and trying to be someone my colleagues can rely on. If this award helps open the door for other women to step into construction, then it will mean even more.”
