Traffic Management Products Ltd (TMP) has successfully completed the first-ever installation of its Bio-Manchester bollards in a removable format, using the TMP retention socket foundation. The project took place at the historic Norton Barracks in Worcester and the adjacent Norton Cricket Ground, and marks a significant development in bollard design and deployment flexibility.
Norton Barracks is a former military site with deep historic roots, once home to the Worcestershire Regiment and later the Queen’s Division. Today, the site comprises converted residences and shared open spaces, including the long-standing Norton Cricket Club. The brief was to create a traffic control solution that respected the visual character of the area while allowing essential vehicular access where necessary.
TMP worked closely with the site managers to deliver a solution that was visually sympathetic, functionally robust and environmentally forward-thinking. The bollards were finished in black with red and gold bands to match the regimental colours and blend seamlessly with the historic environment.
The Bio-Manchester bollard, built from a plant-based bio-polymer, is a lightweight, sustainable alternative to cast iron. It offers lower carbon impact, improved manual handling, and strong durability – making it ideal for both public and private sites.
The Norton project prompted the development of a new mould to adapt the Bio-Manchester design for use with TMP’s retention socket. This newly engineered socket foundation reduces the required excavation by 57.81%, allowing for faster, less invasive installs, particularly beneficial for locations such as car parks, golf courses, sports facilities and residential areas.
“The idea for this bollard had been in development for some time,” said Suzanne Day, Managing Director of TMP. “But the Norton site, which I know well, gave us the perfect opportunity to bring it to life. We’re proud of the result – it’s technically strong, visually appropriate, and a fantastic example of collaboration in action.”
Each bollard can be removed or installed in under 60 seconds, and a flush blanking plate ensures that safety is maintained when bollards are not in use.
