As a long-standing exhibitor at the Innovation and Learning Festival, Grant Shewan, Managing Director of Red Stag Materials, shares why they keep coming back – and reveals an exclusive opportunity for councils attending this year’s event.
Q. You’re exhibiting at this year’s Innovation and Learning Festival and have done so since its inception four years ago. What keeps bringing you back?
A. The Innovation and Learning Festival consistently draws the highest number of local authority attendees of any event we take part in. This makes it a unique opportunity for us to engage directly with key decision-makers, showcase our innovations, and build new relationships. Each year, we aim to connect with councils we haven’t worked with yet and this festival makes that possible.
Q. What innovations or solutions will you be showcasing this year, and why should delegates visit your stand?
A. This year, we’ll be presenting a complete solution for pothole and patch repairs. This includes EZ Street Asphalt, our carbon-neutral pothole repair material, along with powerful battery powered machinery including a saw, specialist Asphalt blades and a battery powered compactor plate. We are looking forward to highlighting our commitment to supply complete, low-impact solutions to infrastructure projects.
Q. Will there be any live demonstrations or interactive opportunities at the event?
A. While we won’t be running live demos at the festival itself, we’re offering tailored post-event demonstrations for councils. These sessions give highways teams the chance to see the products in action and in real-world conditions, ask questions, and receive expert application training. It’s a great way to ensure the solutions is aligned to meet the council’s specific needs.
Q. As a company who champions carbon neutral and low impact products, how is Red Stag supporting councils to achieve their climate goals?
A. EZ Street Asphalt is not only certified carbon neutral, but also engineered for lasting performance, cutting down the need for frequent repairs and the emissions that come with them. Beyond our products, we actively champion reforestation projects and continually seek innovative ways to shrink our environmental footprint. By prioritising low-impact maintenance materials, we help councils meet government sustainability goals while extending the life of road surfaces and providing greener alternatives for essential infrastructure materials.
Q. You’ve worked closely with councils like Bolton, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. Can you share more about those partnerships and what were the challenges, solutions, and outcomes?
A. Absolutely. We work with a wide range of local authorities across the UK. For example, with Edinburgh council, we supply loose tonnage of EZ Street Asphalt which is stockpiled in their bay and used for both planned and reactive repairs. It can be applied in water and used all year round, from summer heatwaves to extremely cold winter temperatures – making it ideal for the volatile Scottish weather!
Q. So, what’s next for Red Stag beyond the Innovation and Learning Festival?
A. We’re focused on booking post-event demo sessions with councils across the UK. These allow us to offer tailored, comprehensive solutions for road maintenance projects.
