The LCRIG Innovation & Learning Festival 2024 delivered a spectacular showcase of cutting-edge technologies and practical solutions in highways maintenance and transport technology. One of the standout features of the event was the live demonstration area, where 10 innovative demonstrations took place, including a world-first debut. From autonomous pothole repair to connected vehicle crash simulations, attendees got to witness the future of highways and transport innovation in action.
This year, all our maintenance demo spaces are already fully booked – a testament to the high demand and success of these interactive sessions. But we’re now calling out for technology-focused demos to join us in showcasing the latest advancements at the 2025 festival.

Why Demonstrate at the Festival?
The festival attracts hundreds of industry professionals, including representatives from local authorities, supply chain partners, academia, the Department for Transport (DfT), and National Highways. Demonstrations offer a practical platform to showcase new technologies, equipment, and techniques in a live environment, providing the perfect setting to engage directly with potential clients and decision-makers.
Last year, more than 600 delegates attended the festival, representing over 80 highway authorities from across the UK, along with industry partners, innovators, and the media.

Highlights from 2024’s Live Demonstrations
World-First Autonomous Pothole Repair Robotiz3d unveiled the world’s first autonomous pothole repair system, ARRES PREVENT. This groundbreaking robot uses AI and predictive algorithms to identify, analyse, and seal cracks before potholes form. Attendees watched as the robot demonstrated its precision and efficiency, offering a glimpse into the future of proactive road maintenance. The autonomous system could save local authorities time and money, while reducing road disruptions for users.
Connected Vehicle Crash Simulation HAAS Alert took live demonstrations to a new level with their Safety Cloud crash simulation. This eye-opening demonstration showed how connected vehicle technology can prevent collisions by alerting drivers to roadside hazards in real-time. The demo featured airbag deployment, drone footage, and emergency response simulations, highlighting the life-saving potential of V2X technology.
JCB’s Pothole Pro in Action The JCB Pothole Pro drew a crowd with its impressive efficiency and multi-functional capabilities. This three-in-one machine cut, cropped, and cleaned potholes in just eight minutes – showcasing a more cost-effective and time-saving solution for road maintenance teams.
The Future of Drone Technology Coventry City Council and VESOS demonstrated their drone-based emergency response technology, showing how drones can reach incident sites faster than traditional vehicles. This live drone demo illustrated the potential for safer, more efficient responses, with applications extending to highway inspections and transport planning.
Revolutionary Line Marking Innovations Meon impressed attendees with their cold-applied line marking technology. Their all-electric RoadLiner ES ECO and RoadLiner 570 demonstrated faster application times, reduced emissions, and improved safety by eliminating hot works.
Autonomous Shuttle Bus Demonstration In collaboration with Transport for West Midlands, Ohmio showcased their Level 4 autonomous shuttle bus. The self-driving shuttle navigated a pre-mapped route, adapting to obstacles and traffic conditions with ease. This demonstration highlighted the potential for autonomous public transport to improve connectivity in urban environments.
Advanced Road Surface Repairs IKO Road demonstrated their Pacopatch Ironwork Surround System, showing how polymer-modified mastic asphalt can be used for durable, cost-effective repairs around manholes and drainage gullies. Attendees were impressed by the simplicity and efficiency of the application process.
Next-Level Surveying with Drones KOREC presented the WingtraOne Generation II VTOL drone, which offers high-precision aerial surveying. The demonstration showcased how this drone technology can transform infrastructure management by capturing detailed imagery and 3D data for highways projects.
Showcasing Academic Innovation Coventry University highlighted their latest research into transport safety, decarbonisation, and civil engineering. Their demonstration included insights into road durability improvements and advanced training programs for apprentices and professionals.
