We are excited to continue our partnership with Primary Engineer to inspire future engineers in the highways and transport technology sector.
Primary Engineer is a purpose-led, not-for-profit organisation with a mission to inspire and engage primary and secondary pupils, and their teachers, in the vast and exciting world of engineering and technology.
Through a variety of programmes and competitions, Primary Engineer enable teachers to confidently embed engineering in their curriculum and, crucially, bring a real-world context into the classroom for pupils through meaningful and direct engagement with the companies and organisations that support us.
We would like to invite highways engineers to get involved in Primary Engineer’s If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do? competition and help encourage young people to consider a rewarding career in engineering.
How You Can Make a Difference
There are flexible opportunities for highways engineers and technology professionals to get involved, including:
School Visits: Share your experiences and showcase engineering careers through in-person or virtual visits.
Grading Days: Help assess pupil entries for the competition and provide valuable feedback.
Your involvement can be as little as an hour, with opportunities available throughout the year, depending on your availability. Primary Engineer offers full support through their dedicated Engineer Relationship Team, along with resources to help you feel confident and prepared.
A Volunteer’s Perspective
Colin Scouller, UK Head of Engineering Early Careers at Thales, introduced his local school, Gargieston Primary and Early Childhood Centre, to engineering through this competition.
Reminiscing on the visit, Colin shared: “One of the highlights for me was at the end of the school day watching the pupils leave the classroom and run over to their parents, excitedly telling them about their day with the engineers!”.
