Our roads, footpaths and cycleways are vital to the communities, businesses and services within the villages, towns and city that make up Bath and North East Somerset, as well as to the millions of visitors that come here every year. It’s a varied district that includes two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the thriving World Heritage City of Bath.
The Council’s Traffic Signals Team is responsible for managing all aspects of the delivery of the Council’s policy, strategy and operations for Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transport System assets. Local Authorities play a crucial part in modern-day traffic network management pursuing the minimisation of network delay for all users, whilst maintaining safety.
Traffic signals and other Intelligent Transport Systems form a package of network management technics using technology to improve transport efficiency. We are open to the use of new approaches and techniques for managing traffic, having recently introduced Pedestrian Countdown at Traffic Signals at a number of junctions in Bath, and we’ll be installing early start cycle signals at two new junctions in the autumn.
We have a vacancy for a career graded Traffic Signals Engineer / Senior Engineer role over two separate levels of progression. This post has responsibility for the design, development, set up and maintenance of traffic signals and a wide range of Intelligent Transport System technologies, including; Urban Traffic Control, Urban Traffic Management Control, variable message signs, CCTV and Real-Time Passenger Information.
With significant Traffic Signal and ITS engineering experience to resolve issues concerning the management of the highway network, we’ve got ambitious plans to enable more journeys to be taken by walking, cycling and public transport.
The person we’re looking for needs to be able to work with this underlying principle, have a passion for problem-solving and be able to take an innovative approach to managing our highway network for all road users.
