North Yorkshire-based highways maintenance business, NY Highways has recently achieved health and safety, environmental and quality ISO accreditations which are set to help grow its operations.
The Integrated Management System (IMS) team at NY Highways undertook a nine-month project, working with colleagues to ensure processes and procedures were implemented within the business.
The IMS team consists of performance analyst and IMS advisor Elisabete Moreira, IMS coordinator Yvette Clayson, senior HSEQ advisor Tariq Anwar and business manager Richard Whitaker. For the accreditation audit, they were assisted by a specialist consultancy firm, Fenn Environmental.
The external audits took place in early-mid December, with NY Highways gaining accreditation to ISO standards 45001, 14001 and 9001. These certifications will help the business to grow, allowing NY Highways to operate commercially.
The success of the audit demonstrates the hard work the NY Highways workforce has put in and the high standards maintained in the business.

The attainment of certification will allow NY Highways to conduct its activities in a controlled, coordinated and compliant manner, providing a platform for continual improvement and growth of the business.

NY Highways is a Teckal highways maintenance business owned by North Yorkshire Council. Working closely with the council, NY Highways was launched in June 2021 and operates as a separate commercial highways operations business.
Since launching, the business has gone from strength-to-strength, having been recognised in shortlists for the Highways Awards in 2022 and 2023, as well as their head office fleet depot achieving MOT Test Centre status in 2023.
NY Highways is also in the middle of their third winter service season, working successfully with North Yorkshire Council to ensure the region’s vast network of roads totalling 5,800 miles continues to move through all weather eventualities.
