The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) has today (22 December 2023) published its first Annual Report, communicating to its members, and the wider sector, the work that LCRIG has delivered for and on behalf of its members and its positive impact on the wider highways community.
The report highlights a substantial collaborative value of £340,000 in fully funded places at LCRIG events for local authorities, demonstrating LCRIG’s commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing through our events.
2023 saw LCRIG launch the Innovation Procurement System (LCRIG IPS) in collaboration with Crown Commercial Service with the aim of increasing the pace of change and giving council members greater control to adopt innovation at a lower cost.
In response to the skills shortage, LCRIG collaborated with Salford City College and Salford City Council to create a Highways Maintenance Academy which saw the first cohort of 10 students embarking on a new Highways Maintenance apprenticeship, tailored to suit the specific requirements of a Highways Operative.
During 2023, LCRIG also focused on net zero with a particular focus on achieving carbon reduction in fleet and making the right asset management decisions.
