Intelligent Transport Systems UK (ITS UK), the industry association for the transport technology sector, has responded to the publication of the Government’s Transport Data Strategy.
Max Sugarman, Chief Executive of Intelligent Transport Systems UK (ITS UK), said: “The UK transport network is generating more data than ever before, so it is positive to see the Government publish their Transport Data Strategy, alongside guidance for Local Authorities that will enable them to make better use of untapped data sources.
“The transport technology industry is already doing important work with Government to harness new data, such as with the Bus Open Data Service and Rail Data Marketplace. However, it is clear that providing further resources for local and national transport authorities would ensure they have the skills and capabilities to do even more. By working with industry, the Government can help transport authorities across the country use data sources to optimise how transport assets are used, thereby helping the industry to decarbonise, improve safety and support a growing sector and economic asset for the UK.
“ITS UK and our members look forward to working with Government to progress this Strategy and to provide a more effective, greener and safer transport system for the travelling public through data.”
