Care leavers to receive Christmas gift

Care leavers will be presented with individual gift boxes thanks to the generosity of Blackburn with Darwen Council, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and local suppliers.

Every year the council runs a “Christmas Gift Box for Care Leavers” initiative where council staff are encouraged to donate presents to care leavers who may not ordinarily receive any gifts at Christmas.

Working with LCRIG and local suppliers this year the local authority managed to raise over £2,400 with the money raised used to create individual gift boxes, with well thought out gifts for both the girls and boys.

Head of Highways at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Dwayne Lowe, said: “Due to the kind generosity of LCRIG, Tensar, Uniplay, Connor Specialist Paving, Multevo, Kays and Bretherton’s we have managed to provide a gift box for all 86 of our care leavers within the 18 – 21 age category. All the buying, wrapping and creation of the gift boxes was undertaken by Georgia Ingham from LCRIG and all at Blackburn with Darwen are hugely appreciative of this enormous and generous effort!”
