View from the top: Calculating carbon

Earlier this week I wrote a joint letter along with the chair of LGTAG highways & infrastructure management board and the chair of MHA+ executive board on the subject of a potential greater risk of isolation for some communities through the combined effect of snow and ice with Covid-19.

The letter was despatched to the Department for Transport (DfT) earlier this week and we have already received a brief acknowledgement. I’m hoping to update you further in due course.

In addition the whole team here at LCRIG have been planning a series of webinars along with Crown Commercial Service and the Transport Technology Forum and we are targeting November to hold an event on the subject of climate change and how this is impacting local government highways.

This has led to discussions on some of the innovations that we are familiar with that will reduce our carbon footprint further enabling LHA’s to maximise their contribution to council targets. I’m aware that not all of our members will have a ‘carbon calculator’ to make the reporting process easy so we aim to look at providing some consistent advice on how this can be achieved.

If any of our members have examples of ‘carbon calculators’, good or bad, I’d be really interested to hear from you.

Up to date advice and information from Leading Bodies, DfT, Government and LCRIG Members.
