Vacancy – Plymouth City Council – Head of Plymouth Highways

Prince Rock Depot Permanent 37 hours per week Grade L (£54,448 to £58,317) pro rata (if applicable)

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic professional to lead Plymouth Highways, a service that plays a significant role in supporting the City’s ambitious growth and economic agendas.

Managing a Team of circa 140 staff you will be responsible for Highway Maintenance, Asset Management, Structures, Street Lighting, Signals / UTC, Network Management, Road Safety, Parking and Marine services. Additionally you will be responsible for the contract management of our Term Maintenance Contractors, South West Highways, who deliver the majority of the maintenance services and some of our other major schemes. The service has delivered a significant improvement over recent years, and has benefitted from considerable support and investment from the Council and successful TCF bids and external funding opportunities.

Your role will be to ensure that Highway’s continue to deliver excellence for those who travel on our network, using technological improvements, best practice and an innovative approach to both service and staff development. As Strategic lead for Highways you will also have a wider remit, contributing to the corporate body through Team Plymouth.
